Spirits of The Past
Today's musings on life are brought to you by tulips, canals, the red light district, Vincent van Gogh, and tiny bottles of @ketelone genever. 📸:@riasoler
Fall is finally here and I'm thrilled to say that I'm one of the National Finalists for the U.S. Sherry Competition again! I think it's fair to say that I like things that look deceptively simple. While the Plum Party looks like a simple brown, bitter, and stirred drink it is more complex than that. It deftly layers Plum Infused Oloroso Sherry, Pineau de Cherantes, Verjus and Spiced Pear. It also does all of the hard work in the prep kitchen so that when you arrive at the party all you have to do is enjoy yourself.
It might be after Labor Day and it might not be whiskey on this Wednesday but frozen drinks aren't slowing down anytime soon. Check out my new piece up on @halffulldrinkandfood for some tips on how to make actually good frozen drinks in the comfort of your own blender.
The Rennaissance Featival is appropriately sized for me. Thanks for sharing the fantasy with me @riasoler
As we're prepping to go to the Maryland Renaissance festival it seems appropriate top registry this photo of us NOT at the Renn Faire. I think we're ready.
EIght years ago I bought myself a birthday present. I had just been through one of the hardest years of my life and suddenly found myself running a bar after getting back into bartending a mere two months before hand, Since then, every year on my birthday I take the time to pour myself two ounces and reflect on the past year. This year will be the first year since before I bought this bottle that I'm not running full force into the next thing. Tonight is my last night at NoMad LA. I will miss this building. I will miss these people. But as I sip by birthday Rittenhouse I will savor the calm before the next storm.
